jazzlotion is a new company dedicated to recording the finest young jazz musicians direct to stereo in a state-of-the-art environment. There are no drop-ins, mixdowns, effects or gadgetry of any kind—just great musicians performing live in the studio without a safety net and their performance going straight to a Studer half-inch tape machine. It's the closest you can get to the purity of a live show where all that matters is the performance and the music.

jazzlotion will release this music as 4 track EP downloads directly from its own Wazala!- powered online store available as both high quality FLAC and mp3 formats. Priced at £2.00 for each complete 4 track EP download and released as quickly as possible after recording, these jazz EPs will allow consumers to hear and buy the music while it's still fresh. CDs will be available for artists to sell directly to fans at live shows. And as for the future, 10" vinyl anyone?

Everyone will contribute to make this happen—the artists, studio, engineer and backroom will all contribute their skills and facilities to make and market the recordings, then share in the net income. The artists will own all their recordings and rights while agreements are for three years and non-exclusive, allowing the artists to sign and record with whomever they like.

jazzlotion was started by producer/engineer by Tony Platt (Bob Marley, The Bad Plus, AC/DC) and music industry veteran Adam Sieff (formerly Sony Music Director of Jazz).

The first jazzlotion recording session by The Peter Edwards Trio was produced and engineered by Tony Platt and recorded at Snap! Studios in North London on Sunday October 3, 2010. The recording session lasted exactly four hours and all the songs were recorded directly to stereo tape with no editing, drop-ins or mixing—what you hear is exactly how it went down. The tracks were mastered by Ray Staff at AIR and are now available to buy as both FLAC and mp3 downloads from the jazzlotion music store at jazzlotion.com.

The Peter Edwards Trio

The first release from jazzlotion is by the Peter Edwards Trio, performing four of Peter's original compositions premiered at The Spice of Life, Soho in Summer 2010. The line-up is Peter Edwards—piano, Saleem Raman—drums and Max Luthert—double bass.

Peter Edwards is one of the most exciting young talents on the British jazz scene today, a pianist and composer with a Masters in Jazz from Trinity College and an alumni of the Tomorrow's Warriors artistic development programme who has already established a growing reputation as a bandleader, musical director, composer and arranger. Peter is a member of Rhythmica, tours with Abram Wilson's Quartet and accompanies and arranges for vocalists Nicola Emmanuelle and Zara McFarlane. He is the musical director of the newly formed Tomorrow's Warriors Jazz Orchestra for whom he recreated Duke Ellington's 'The Queen's Suite.' He also wrote his own suite 'Above and Beyond the Horizon' for TWJO and both works were performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in July 2009.
