NEW YORK, NY—Jazz Standard presents legendary Jazz bassist and film composer Robert Hurst in a rare and special performance for two nights only at New York's premier nightclub: JAZZ STANDARD. The event is Tuesday & Wednesday August 2nd & 3rd, 2011, two shows 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm, ticket price $25.00.

About Robert Hurst

Robert L. Hurst III, also known as Robert Hurst, is a highly respected and well recognized composer, bassist, educator, recording artist, and business man. His cultivation into a membership of talented musicians from around the world was fostered by lengthy tours and Grammy Award winning recordings featuring: Charles Lloyd, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Dave Brubeck, Harry Connick Jr., Terrence Blanchard, Tony Williams, Nicholas Payton, Sting, Carl Allen, the legendary Pharaoh Sanders, Barbara Streisand, Willie Nelson, Chris Botti and Diana Krall.

To date, Robert Hurst has won six Grammy Awards, performed on several RIAA- Platinum and Gold recordings, and has received Top Ten and Five Star recognition around the Globe. You may recognize Robert Hurst as the bassist in the house band of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for eight seasons, from 1992 to 1999. His work in performing, directing, arranging, and composing on the NBC program were highlighted with four Emmy Awards in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999.

Robert Hurst has scored original music for several films: “The Wood"- MTV/ Paramount Productions, “Brown Sugar"- Fox Films, has performed music for: “Ocean's Eleven," “Ocean's Twelve," “Ocean's Thirteen," and “Good Night, and Good Luck “ the soundtrack, featuring Dianne Reeves, on Concord Records ( A 2006 Grammy Awardee- Jazz Vocal).

During the 80's, Hurst's ascension was already being tracked as a recipient of the National Endowment of the Arts Presidential Scholarship Award (a coveted award recognizing the very best high school graduates in the Arts). The formally educated Hurst has been actively involved in teaching and promoting music education, entertainment industry protocol, and Jazz history fundamentals for most of his career. He has conducted multiple Master's classes at: the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, the Julliard School of Music, California State University at Northridge and the Stanford Jazz Workshop & Festival. Hurst loves teaching and recognizes the importance and rewards of giving back to young people. Robert works daily to convey the wisdom and life experience gleaned from a life on the road as a performer in his current post as an Associate Professor of Music with Tenure in the Department of Jazz and Improvisation at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre & Dance (Ann Arbor).

He also serves as a Board of Director for the John Coltrane Foundation.

Robert Hurst III, jazz bassist, returns triumphant to the scene with his newest releases, “Bob Ya Head," an organically grown decorative quilt of compositions stitched together with vibrant patches of grooves, electronics and spoken word, and “Unrehurst" Vol. 2, a delightfully unscripted and unrehearsed live trio recording on the Bebob Records label.
