London promoter and record label Jazz re:freshed has lost its home base, the Mau Mau Bar in Notting Hill Gate’s Portobello Road, following its sale to new owners. The organisation's weekly residency at the venue was a popular part of West London’s live jazz scene and the fulcrum of Jazz re:freshed's other activities.

In a surprise announcement, Jazz re:freshed said that while it had “expected to be part of the new set up” at the site, “certain important factors prevented us from being able to do that.” What those factors are has yet to be made public.

“We always knew, from the very beginning, that a day would come where we would have to leave Mau Mau,” says the organisation, “and although we would have hoped that it would've been under different circumstances, that time has come. We have been and are actively looking for a new home for the weekly live residency and we are having several discussions with potential new spaces (recommendations welcome). This will mean that there will be an extended hiatus until a new place is sorted, which hopefully will not be too long.”

Jazz re:freshed began in 2003 and has received Arts Council England (ACE) funding since 2015, when it was granted annual support of $125,000. This increased to $170,000 in 2019. Under the agreement with ACE, that funding is secure until 2021/22.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
