Imagine a cross between Ella Fitzgerald and Bette Midler, throw in a little Rosie Clooney, add a dash of Louis Armstrong, and you might get some idea of Suede's unique musical talents and abilities. My Dad was a jazz piano player in the 1950's and 1960's and I grew up around some of the great jazz giants. Seeing Suede live and hearing her incredible scatting definitely brings me back to the time of the great talent from many years ago!
Jazz lovers agree that Suede's 2001 release, On The Day We Met" (title cut written for Suede by David Pearl) is definitely one of the best! Al Santos, from 105.9 WJZW (arguably Washington, DC's favorite jazz station), ranked this CD #1 on his top-20 list for 2001; and he ranked the cut Emily Remembers" #6 on his top 50 songs for 2001.
Suede's crystal clear voice and amazing range blend perfectly with longtime musical partners and veteran jazz players David Pearl on piano and Max Murray on bass. If you get a chance to catch a live show grab it, as they are truly phenomenal!
