It's a blessing in disguise. André Rieu, the world famous violinist/conductor and composer from Maastricht (Netherlands) had to cancel his upcoming tour due to a vestibular infection. As such, the city's carillon player and violinist at Rieu's Orchestra, Frank Steijns, will be in town for the JekerJazz Maastricht festival. His weekly concert on Saturday afternoon, the 16th of October, will be dedicated to the 20th edition this year, so he'll be only playing J A Z Z in the city hall's bell tower.
Frank Steijns> will be joined by guitarist Joep van Leeuwen and vocalist Tamara Hoekwater. The concert starts at 12.30 am until 13.15 am. On the program will also be a homage to Glenn Corneille, the very talented pianist/arranger/composer who was tragically killed in 2005 by a car accident at age 35. Glenn Corneille studied at the Maastricht Conservatory and was a frequent guest during the early JekerJazz fests. In honor of his work and memory, they'll perform a composition from a friend, Egbert Derix (Searing Quartet), titled 'Hymne to Glenn Corneille.'
