At 4 the drummer Ralph Peterson, a clear inheritor to Blakeys powerhouse style, performs with a Jazz Messengers ensemble based at the New School Jazz Program.
At 5 the trumpeter Valery Ponomarev, a former Blakey sideman, leads a big band in a jazz vespers service. The culmination is a concert.
At 7, including many other alumni of Blakeys employ, like the trombonist Curtis Fuller, the trumpeter Eddie Henderson and the saxophonist Billy Harper.

YEAH YEAH RECORDS AND FRIENDS FESTIVAL

This Brooklyn series, running every Friday through the months end, features artists affiliated with the ruggedly independent Yeah Yeah label. Among them are the pianist Angelica Sanchez, who performs a solo set at 8 p.m.; a duo featuring the pianist Jacob Sacks and the tap dancer Orlando Hernandez, at 9; and a group led by the pop-literate bassist Eivind Opsvik, at 10.
