Gloria Galante has an impressive background. Beginning in 1978, she studied harp with the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Edna Phillips, after earlier studies under Carol Alcorn, the acclaimed student of Curtis’ Carlos Salzedo. Galante has toured internationally as a solo artist, chamber musician, member of ensembles and orchestras, and is a composer of works, transcriptions and therapeutic pieces for the harp. She is also the director of the West Chester University College of the Visual and Performing Arts Harp ensemble, WCU annual Harp Festival and WCU Harp Camp, Musicopia ensemble leader, and teaching artist on the prestigious Pennsylvania Council of the Arts. As one of the few Jazz harpists in the world of improvisational music, Galante has made quite an impression by way of her acclaimed work and recordings with reedman Odean Pope and on the CD Kusangala, a Jazz quintet featuring Galante with bassist Tyrone Brown, percussionist Duke Wilson, drummer Jim Miller and vocalist Rosella Clemmons Washington.

Remember that April is Jazz Month in the United States and all over the world, making this a more than appropriate time to support Jazz and all the Jazz Bridge events this month. Jazz Bridge is a Philadelphia-based non-profit organization dedicated to assisting area jazz and blues musicians in need. Their Jazz Bridge in Collingswood program is one in a series at this venue along with four other area locales. For more details, visit Jazz Bridge.
