Jazz drummer Walter Perkins remains in very poor condition at North Shore Forest Hills Hospital located at 10201 66th Road, Flushing, New York 11375 (718) 830-4000 Phone in room 409. On January 21st, 2004 Walter Perkins was presented a plaque for 35 years service to the Creative Jazz Organization. Ever since then his condition has gotten worse and deteriorated to the point he needed hospitalization. According to information available to me, and based on a telephone conversation with Walter Perkins wife; “the cancer spread and his sugar has been going up and down". In my opinion the prognosis looks very guarded and or grim at this time. There may be eventual problems with his kidneys, and ontop of a stroke this makes the situation very serious and life threatning.

By Hank Johnson, jazz pianist who has worked many gigs with Walter Perkins.
