Columbus, OH - International Blues Challenge (IBC) winner and Albert King Best Guitarist Award-winner Sean Carney returns to the Lincoln Theatre on January 11, 2014 for a blues-rockin’ PBJ & Jazz concert presented by the Jazz Arts Group of Columbus (JAG) and Bob Evans Farms. Due to popular demand, this year’s season will continue to include two performance times per concert, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
A one-man ambassador for the blues, Columbus, OH native Sean Carney has brought his music to such far flung locales as Switzerland, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Hungary, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. He served three terms as president of the Columbus Blues Alliance, and promotes concerts as the creator of “Blues for a Cure,” an annual blues festival that has donated over $50,000 towards cancer research.
PBJ & Jazz concerts are 1-hour long interactive concerts designed to introduce jazz and American music to young children and their families. Featuring some of Columbus’ finest musicians and ensembles, PBJ & Jazz concerts are hosted by former Columbus Music Hall owner and retired music educator Rebecca Ogden and are a great introduction to live music for the youngest audience member.
“It has been so much fun over the years to work with great musicians playing real live jazz for kids and their families,” states Ogden. “Every concert is a treat. I am delighted that PBJ & Jazz has a life after the Columbus Music Hall in its new home at the Lincoln!”
PBJ & Jazz concerts are $5 per person at the door with a family maximum of $20. Children receive a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, juice and a cookie. The 2013-14 concerts will be held in the ballroom in the Lincoln Theatre complex, 769 E. Long Street, Columbus, OH 43203. All concerts begin promptly at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Call 614-294-5200 or visit jazzartsgroup.org for more information.
Other series highlights include the New Orleans funk of the New Basics Brass Band (February 22, 2014), and the jazz stylings of Aaron Scott, Dave Dewitt & Derek DiCenzo (March 8, 2014).
The PBJ & Jazz series is presented by Bob Evans Farms with ongoing support from the Ohio Arts Council, the Greater Columbus Arts Council, and The Columbus Foundation. Exclusive media support is provided by WCBE 90.5 FM.
