The Jason Parker Quartet, one of Seattle's up-and-coming jazz bands, is heading into the studio on December 26th to record a tribute to Nick Drake.

“Five Leaves Left: A Jazz Tribute to Nick Drake" is a unique concept in that it is a remaking, song by song, of the British singer-songwriter's debut album. Rather than take a retrospective look at music from throughout Drake's career, Parker has chosen to focus on only the songs from the one album. He has been working on the arrangements of the 10 tunes for two years and the band has been playing them in rehearsals and on the bandstand for months (see below for video from a recent show).

Parker has enlisted the help of the indie artist fundraising platform Kickstarter to raise some of the funds needed to complete the project. Click here for more information.

Called “The next generation of Seattle Jazz" by Earshot Jazz, the JPQ is comprised of Jason Parker on trumpet & flugelhorn, Josh Rawlings on piano, Evan Flory-Barnes on bass and D'Vonne Lewis on drums. On this recording they will be joined by Cynthia Mullis on sax and Michele Khazak on vocals.
