Pianist, songwriter and arranger Janice Friedman will be celebrating the release of her new CD, Swingin' for the Ride, with a performance at New York's Sweet Rhythm, the Greenwich Village jazz club at 88 Seventh Avenue South (at Bleecker Street) on March 28.

Swingin' for the Ride is Janice's third release as a leader, but this time the in-demand sidewoman has also decided to “come out of the closet" as a vocalist and exhibit her talents as a singer. Mixing original compositions with such timeless songs as 'I Didn't Know What Time It Was,' 'Summertime,' and 'Is You Is,' “Swingin for the Ride" is a lively, joyous effort that captures Janice's creative and unique style, a natural extension of her years of experience as a performer (with the Woody Herman Orchestra, Milt Hinton, Cab Calloway, and Marian McPartland, among many, many others), and as a teacher (she's been on the faculty at Rutgers University since 1993 and continues to teach privately as well.)

Joining Janice at the March 28 show will be Matt Hughes on bass and Brian Floody on drums. Shows are at 8 and 10 PM, with a $15 music charge and a $10 minimum. and For additional information on the show, you can visit: www.sweetrhythmny.com.
