Jane Monheit Joins Jimmy Webb on October 11 At Landmark On Main Street

Landmark on Main Street, one of Long Island’s premier concert venues, and Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the renowned summer arts day camp, will co-present Jimmy Webb and Jane Monheit on October 11th at 8:00 PM. The concert, Landmark’s 2014-15 opening night event, will for the first time team Jimmy Webb, the multi- Grammy winning composer and performer with Jane Monheit, the Grammy-nominated jazz singer and Usdan Center alumna. The critically acclaimed composer Jimmy Webb has penned some of the American Songbook's most memorable and performed songs including “By The Time I Get To Phoenix" and “Up, Up and Away." His songs have been recorded by Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Judy Collins, Michael Feinstein, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt and other famous artists. Jane Monheit, a former Usdan student and a frequent guest artist at the Center, recently released her 9th album, “The Heart of the Matter.” She regularly performs throughout the world, and frequently in New York City where the New York Times recently praised Monheit’s artistry, citing her “lustrous timbre” and an “energy and verve that recalled the glory days of Ella Fitzgerald.”

This special concert is one of 40 cultural events within the program Arts Alive LI, a month- long celebration of the many entertainment attractions that Long Island has to offer. Arts Alive LI is sponsored by Long Island Arts Alliance and Bethpage Federal Credit Union. The October 11th concert is presented by program sponsors Fern & Hersh Cohen, Carol & Sandy Krieger, Nassau Emergency Medicine: Emergency Medicine at St. Francis Hospital, Sahn Ward Coschignano & Baker PLLC, and Maureen & Joe Wekselblatt.

Landmark on Main Street, a multi-purpose community Center which also includes many programs for children and the overall community, presents 35 to 40 programs each year in the 425-seat Jeanne Rimsky Theater. Stars that have performed there include Christine Ebersole, Sutton Foster, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Kelli O'Hara, Judy Collins and top ensembles in contemporary music. Landmark also offers the free speaker series “Conversations from Main Street" that features business leaders, authors, educators, celebrities, sports figures among others, including Andrew Cuomo, author Nelson DeMille, Patrick McEnroe and Broadway composer Jeanine Tesori.

Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, one of America’s largest summer arts camps whose alumni include Natalie Portman, Mariah Carey and Jane Monheit, recently completed its 47th season. Usdan has introduced the arts to more than 60,000 Tri-State area children since its founding in 1968. The Center is open to all young people from age 6 to 18. Usdan’s program features more than 40 three, four and seven-week programs in music, dance, theater, visual arts, writing, nature & ecology, and chess. No audition is needed for most programs – rather, admission is based on an expression of interest in the arts. Each summer, 1,600 students are transported to the Center in air-conditioned buses that depart from most Long Island and NYC neighborhoods each day. One-third of Usdan’s students attend on scholarship. Although the mission of the Center is for every child to establish a the arts, the unique stimulation of the Center has caused many to go on to professional careers. Alumni include members of the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Orchestra of St. Lukes, and major theater and dance ensembles including principals in numerous Broadway shows and in dance companies such as the New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theater.
