Juno Award winner, Jane Bunnett has turned her bands and recordings into showcases for the finest musical talent from Canada, the U.S. and Cuba. She has been nominated for Grammy Awards, numerous Juno Awards, and most recently, was honored with an appointment to the Order of Canada.

While past recordings have explored and combined elements of Cuban roots music with traditional and contemporary Jazz as well as Classical, Radio Guantnamo pays tribute to the Blues and solidifies Jane as one of Canada's premier musicians.

Merging the heritage and history of the New Orleans Blues sound with the oldest form of Cuban Blues music, Changi, Radio Guantnamo is perhaps Jane Bunnett's most adventurous and commercial release to date.

This album, planned over the past two years, and recorded in both Toronto and Guantnamo, Cuba not only pays tribute and homage to the music of the Blues, it also acknowledges the recent tragedies in New Orleans with inspired songs like “New Orleans Under Water (Nueva Orleans Bajo Agua)," co-written and featuring New Orleans native and musician, Johnny Sansone.

Radio Guantnamo features the core Spirits of Havana musicians; David Virelles (piano), Larry Cramer (trumpet), Kieran Overs (acoustic bass), Ethan Ardelli (drums) and Jalidan Luis Castro (congas), as well as a number of stellar musical guests including: New Orleans natives Johnny Sansone (accordion, harmonica, vocals) and Howard Johnson (tuba), along with Canadian guitarist, Kevin Breit (Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson), legendary Jazz saxophonist Dewey Redman, and from Cuba, vocalist Tiburon Morales and music groups Grupo Changi de Guantnamo and Grupo Changi de Santiago.

The result is a project that will appeal not only to Jane's core audience, but also to fans of World Music and the Blues.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
