The Reykjavik Jazz Festival, to be held between 29th August and 1st September 2007 in Iceland, will feature internationally-renown jazz artists Uri Caine and Jerry Bergonzi as well as rising Nordic stars Eivor Palsdottir, Sigurdur Flosason and Eythor Gunnarsson.
Philadelphia-born Uri Caine will play on 29th August alongside Drew Gress on bass and Ben Perowsky on drums. Caine has performed with Philly Joe Jones, Hank Mobley, Johnny Coles, Bootsie Barnes and Grover Washington and has won recent accolades for his treatment of music by composers such as Mahler, Schumann, Wagner, Bach and Mozart.
On Thursday 30th August, enigmatic Faroese superstar Eivor Palsdottir will take to the stage alongside the Reykjavik Big Band, to re-imagine songs from her famed collaboration album with the Danish Radio Big Band. Eivor is virtually a household name in Iceland, having won the Icelandic Music Award as well as the Grima Award. She has also won a prize for Best Album in Denmark and been named 'Faeroe Islander of the Year'.
Jerry Bergonzi, commonly regarded as 'the saxophonist's saxophonist', will play along with Icelandic jazz players at the Reykjavik Jazz Festival Muli Concerts on 29th and 20th August.
