IBM Partners With Sacem For Music Cloud-Based Rights Management Platform

French performance rights organization Société des auteurs, compositeurs et éditeurs de musique (Sacam) announced that they are partnering with technology giant IBM in a 10-year bid to develop URights, a cloud-based copyright platform designed to track and collect on online music for creators and publishers.

URights aims to leverage cloud technology and data analytics, including IBM's Watson explorer to better identify and compensate copyright holders from a variety of service platforms.

The platform will also offer creators and publishers new services to help them access and analyze market analytics, as well as to provide a better understanding of cultural goods consumption, the companies said.

As well, the two companies hope that by making the platform's design open, they will allow their partners such as other rights collection organizations to integrate their own data into the system, reducing duplications and improving copyright indentification.

The move to apply big data analytics comes as digital streaming increasingly dominates music consumption. Last year, Sacem tracked nearly 982.5 billion download and streaming transactions–almost twice the 2015 total.
