Sweet Relief Musicians Fund provides financial support to professional musicians who need help when facing illness, disability or aging issues. The organization was founded in 1993 and a wide variety of folks, including musicians and music-related organizations, have supported the organization through donations and benefits. Since many musicians do not have health insurance, have limited or variable incomes and have few resources for emergencies, Sweet Relief offers an opportunity for musicians to help each other.

Sweet Relief Musicians Fund was founded by Victoria Williams. While on tour with Neil Young, she had to drop out due to a variety of symptoms that were ultimately diagnosed as multiple sclerosis. An all-star album featuring Williams' songs was created called “Sweet Relief" which covered much of her related debt. She then used some of the proceeds to found the nonprofit fund.

Musicians and music fans can get involved in a number of ways including making donations, bidding at Sweet Relief's online auction and spreading the word. Donations can go to the general fund or there are options to choose particular regions, artists or music genres.

Help Sweet Relief & Promote Your Project

While musicians can organize benefits at any time, a Night Of Sweet Relief is coming up Saturday, October 15th. Hundreds of events at all sorts of venues participate by including a $1 donation in their admission fee. Of course, venues/events can also make larger donations. Music industry professionals of all kinds and business such as record stores, radio stations and music blogs are also encouraged to create events and spread the word.

If you want to get involved with a Night of Sweet Relief and need more information, you can contact the fund. Venues can use this form.

Sweet Relief is also developing a microsite and additional promo materials so get in touch and let them know what you need to help their efforts. Spreading the word both on and offline is a great way to show your support while helping this worthy event succeed.
