Composer Evan Hause (a.k.a. Dr. HOSS) to be in residence at Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Wednesdays in June, 2004

“Wednesdays-in-Residence" at Galapagos Art Space in June will feature one of New York City's most imaginative and ranging young composers, Evan Hause. A North Carolinian cum Greenpoint, Brooklyn resident, Hause is a self-styled musical “independent" whose work sprawls across experimental, pop, classical, electronic, jazz and improvisational fields of musical performance. Known recently for his operatic “Defenestration Trilogy" (2000-present), he received praise from The New York Times ("most compelling"), The Village Voice ("powerful and haunting"), and Opera News ("fresh and dramatic"). Winner of three ASCAP composer awards, Hause (a.k.a. Dr. Hoss - pronounced alike) will present a large and varied sampling of his music and performing talents at Galapagos Art Space. He will perform as percussionist, guitarist, pianist, singer, bassist, conductor and bandleader with a veritable posse of talented collaborators.

Many of the compositions planned for June display Hause's characteristic color, humor and poetry, such as James Brown Loops for two antiphonal funk bands, Study in Flak for ferocious fusion quartet, From the Ghetto of the Crystal Imps for percussion and tape, and Ant Race for brass and sax quintet. One evening will be devoted to his rock ensemble, The Heard, featuring his quirky and lushly eclectic pop-oriented songs presented by a shimmering ensemble of musicians and singers. His creative music ensemble, Condensation, will perform, featuring Rhodes electric piano, guitar, tabla, saxes and electronics. Guests will include members of the groups Absolut Ensemble, Antibalas, Bang On a Can, Belacqua, Boxing, Brooklyn and New York Philharmonics, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Dogs of Desire, Elvis Schoenberg's Orchestre Surr
