Hans Blix at the Tea Lounge 3/29

BROOKLYN, NY - Hans Blix is ready to show Brooklyn what free improvisation is really all about.

This trio of Brooklyn-musicians uses archetypical hooks, layered sounds, and real-time audio deconstruction to draw the listeners in, then take their breath away, without relying on any pre-composed material.

Are they jazz? Electronica? Post rock? All or none of the above?

Niall V. of East Village Radio describes them as “...a super improv-unit, moving and shaping time and space."

Dan Venne (guitar/laptop - ableton live), Brian Scherman (micro-korg keyboard/saxophone), and James Windsor-Wells (drums) connected musically through their experiences at the Center for Improvisational Music, headed by Ralph Alessi.

Each musician brings a unique perspective to the band:

• Venne's instrumental rock band Cougar has been described by The Wire as “a gleaming gem...gloriously precise and urgent," and has performed throughout the US and abroad from Argentina to Slovenia and the UK.
• Scherman has performed throughout the Northeast, including at such notable venues as The Blue Note, the 55bar, The Knitting Factory and the House of Blues with legendary performers such as John Scofield, Ralph Alessi and others.
• Windsor-Wells is a sought-after jazz and rock drummer, performing with groups like SadRed, Irondog, and freelancing throughout New York.

Since their formation, Hans Blix has performed at major venues throughout New York and Brooklyn, including Zebulon, Pianos, Fat Bay and The Delancy, with special guests like altoist David Binney.

They will bring their unique sound to the Tea Lounge, 837 Union St, Mar. 29th for a 8 p.m. show.
