World-class guitarist Ernesto Cortazar will arrive in Seychelles early next month and will hold concerts for the public and seminars for local musicians during his month-long stay.

Mr. Cortazar is originally from Mexico, studying guitar at the Music Conservatory in Mexico City, and now lives in Zurich, Switzerland, where he performs, records, does session work and teaches guitar.

He toured with Ricky Martin in the mid-Nineties and has performed with Carlos Santana, Kermit Driscoll and other well-known artists. Over the years, he has studied with guitar greats like Kurt Rosenwinkel, Wayne Krantz, Christopher Rosenberg and Rodney Jones.

JazzWorldQuest, one of the premier websites for jazz music, describes his work as “outstanding spiritual music from a versatile master of strings”.

It adds: “Combining subtle expressions of flamenco with energetic free jazz improvisations, virtuoso guitarist Ernesto Cortazar creates a beautiful, fluid musical ambiance with references to Wes Montgomery and Pat Martino.” He is now putting the finishing touches to his fourth album.

Dates and venues for concerts and seminars in Seychelles will be announced early in February.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
