The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is said to be a place where there's a song for every heart. It only takes a single visit to Cork to understand why that claim proves true. This year's edition runs from October 25th through the 28th, and promises to fulfill the guarantee of great music in a fun loving city.

The traditional October Holiday weekend means the music and the party will extend from Friday through Monday and include an inspiring Irish art stew of local culture and international performers, in a vast array of eclectic settings with jazz enhanced public spaces, thoroughfares, galleries and cuisines.

For the primary concerts, expect a four day feast of “A" level talent amidst the welcoming quays of Cork's scenic central area under classic architecture or inside funky, offbeat venues. This year's main stages are the Cork Opera House, The Everyman theatre, Triskel Christchurch and Triskel Auditorium.

Headed up by Saturday night's long sold out Chic and Nile Rogers Show, the line up includes the Mingus Big Band, Snarky Puppy, Billy Cobham, Bilal, and Soul II Soul Sound System. Some of the festival's most anticipated visitors are the Danish band Efterklang, who play Friday night with the West Cork Ukulele Orchestra in a unique pairing that could be definitive of the entire weekend. For those who may prefer a harder edge, Primal Scream close the concert program Monday night.

An abundance of smaller shows featuring solid groups like Beat 'n Blow, Son Yambu, Blue Moose and Fight Like Apes makes it easy to submerge in the sound and the supplemental suds, along the scenic River Lee. The festival schedule includes plenty of “fringe" artist showcases and boasts the Guinness Music Trail, an epic, 35 bar room stretch of live club shows.

The folks at Guinness Cork Jazz have concocted a delightful musical nectar that should enjoyably intoxicate the ears of a wide range of fans. As long as you're under control and not driving (and Guinness promotes a solid forum for responsible consumption), you can leave the responsibility for a fine time to Guinness Cork Jazz, where it looks like another great festival weekend is brewing.
