Grammys Get Real with Nominations

Radiohead

After years of throwing hyper-saturated mainstream poop at the masses, it appears the Grammys have come around to some real dope sounds. In addition to fairly entertaining rockers Coldplay (who will probably win and received seven nominations in total), other artists up for Album of the Year include Radiohead (who nabbed six nominations in total - Grammys be wakin' up yo!), Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Lil' Wayne and Ne-Yo.

But where things really get interesting is down the list a bit. We're all happy - and damn surprised - to see nominations such as the Justice remix of MGMT's “Electric Feel" up for Best Remixed Recording; Daft Punk's “Harder Better Faster Stronger" live version, recorded on Alive 2007, up for Best Dance Recording as well Best Electronic/Dance Album. Our favorite freaks The Mars Volta are up for Best Hard Rock Performance, David Gilmour and Zappa Plays Zappa are nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance and Cornelius could win Best Surround Sound Album while M.I.A. got a nod for Record of the Year. And knob twisters Nigel Godrich (In Rainbows) and Danger Mouse (Beck, The Black Keys and Gnarls Barkley) are both up for Producer of the Year. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones got a nod for Best Pop Instrumental Album as well as Best Country Instrumental Performance.

Kings of Leon got three nods for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song for “Sex on Fire." The Best Rock Song category also finds Bruce Springsteen ("Girls in Their Summer Clothes"), Radiohead ("House of Cards"), Death Cab for Cutie ("I Will Possess Your Heart") and Coldplay ("Violet Hill"). The Raconteurs were also nominated in Best Rock Album.

Best Alternative Music Album boasts My Morning Jacket, Beck, Death Cab and Radiohead.

Don't get us wrong, there's still a bunch of stuff we wouldn't dare let our peeps catch up rocking, but still, for the Grammys, this is some next level shit.

You can see all the nominations, including Kanye's and Jay-Z's six each here.
