KANSAS CITY'S (AND CARNEGIE HALL'S) ELDAR TO PERFORM JARDINE'S STAR SERIES

“The last time I saw Eldar it was in an audience of ten thousand," remarked an astonished passerby upon learning that the now 20 year-old prodigy of jazz piano was coming Jardine's in Kansas City.

In a rare opportunity to experience a great in an intimate venue, Grammy-nominated Sony Classics recording artist Eldar, will appear for five nights, two shows per night (Sunday, November 16 - Thursday, November 20, 2008) at Jardine's restaurant and jazz club in Eldar's home town of Kansas City. For reservations call 816-561-6480.

“We're beginning a star series in an intimate setting," adds Jardine's Beena Brandsgard. Kansas City, renowned for its jazz, will now have Jardine's as one of the few venues where the artist can be experienced affordably--up-close and personal. Jardine's was very fortunate to have been able to schedule Eldar.

Eldar, described by the San Francisco Chronicle as “ridiculously gifted," whose talent referred to reverentially by his fellow musicians as “the monster," and who has outgrown the cherished title of prodigy, was picking out Oscar Peterson, note for note, at age 3.

Eldar Djangirov was born in the Soviet Republic of Kyrgyzstan, began piano lessons at age 5 and performed shortly thereafter. At 9, he was discovered at the Novosibirsk Jazz Festival in Russia and arrangements were immediately made for Eldar and his family to move to the United States (to the Kansas City suburb of Prairie Village) and to enroll him at the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Kansas City, known for its music and musicians, assisted the family - for starters, moving Eldar from an upright piano to a Steinway. By age 14, he took first place over many older competitors at the International Lionel Hampton Jazz Piano Competition.

The New York Times review of Eldar's first, self-titled major label debut read Eldar combines Art Tatum's superhuman velocity with echoes of Oscar Peterson's grandeur.

Eldar's most recent release, on Sony Classics, entitled Eldar: re-imagination, received last year's Grammy Nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

re-imagination, which chronicles people, places and events in the pianists life features the original composition Prairie Village, in Eldar's words, a little town a suburb of Kansas City. Its where I grew up from the age of ten, when I came to the United States, until I was sixteen. So many kind and special people. A wonderful place to grow up. Eldar debuted Prairie Village at Carnegie Hall and did the little town proud!
