Every Sunday Starting at 11:00AM Gospel Jazz Brunch in NYC featuring BISHOP NATHANIEL TOWNSLEY, JR. AND THE GOSPEL JUBILEE

The Iridium Jazz Club is pleased to announce their new Gospel Jazz Brunch featuring Bishop Nathaniel Townsley, Jr. And The Gospel Jubilee beginning this Sunday, April 24th.

If you have a desire to hear gospel music at its best, Bishop Townsley and the Gospel Jubilee is a great place to start. This is a seasoned group of singers who are 2nd and 3rd generation descendants of some of the great pioneers of Gospel Music – the legendary Selah Jubilee Singers. It was the Gospel Music Hall of Famer, Thurman Ruth of the Selah Jubilee Singers, who first brought Gospel Music to Harlem’s renowned Apollo Theatre. Bishop Townsley's exceptional musicianship enables the Jubilee’s repertoire to include African Chants, Negro Spirituals, Jubilee Songs as well as Hip Hop Gospel of today. Bishop is well known as a Pioneer of Contemporary Gospel, yet when vocalist Sylvia Dyson Ruth soulfully leads the group in a Traditional song, that’s when you know, you’re experiencing Gospel Music at its best. Their widespread style bridges the sacred and the popular.

Gospel Music has its roots in Blues and Negro Spirituals. Ma Rainey’s piano player, Thomas A. Dorsey a.k.a, Georgia Tom, - “the Father of Gospel Music", after a tragic accident turned his back on playing the Blues and wrote Precious Lord, Take My Hand – musically speaking, that's when “Saturday night" met “Sunday morning." Come experience the joy of this remarkable celebration every Sunday at Iridium’s Gospel Jubilee Sunday Brunch.
