Ghostlight President Kurt Deutsch Envisions a Contemporary 'United Artists' For Broadway

Ghostlight Records is a label on the rise, with plans to release the cast recordings of two of Broadway's hottest shows, BEST MUSICAL TONY nominees IN THE HEIGHTS (13 nominations overall) and PASSING STRANGE (7 nominations overall). Ghostlight is committed to bringing the music of the 'New Broadway' to a contemporary audience, using modern technology, innovative marketing and artist involvement. With this week's significant Tony nominations for IN THE HEIGHTS, PASSING STRANGE and SOUTH PACIFIC star KELLI O'HARA, Ghostlight is proud to be on the vanguard of interacting with the next generation of Broadway music consumers.

Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records is a Grammy-nominated record label, a producer of recorded and live entertainment, and an interactive community at www.sh-k-boom.com, and www.ghostlightrecords.com. Since being founded eight years ago by Kurt Deutsch and Sherie Rene Scott (star of 'Aida' and 'The Little Mermaid,) Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight has emerged as the leading producer of Original Broadway and Off Broadway cast albums, and solo recordings by the new generation of Broadway stars and composers.

President Kurt Deutsch envisions Ghostlight as a contemporary 'United Artists' for Broadway: “When Sherie and I started the company eight years ago, we dreamt of creating a 'community of artists' that would work together to build a different kind of record label and production company - one designed by and for the Broadway community. We set out to work in close partnership with producers and performers, to preserve this important piece of musical history. And, I'm proud to say, we're doing it."

Here is Ghostlight's impressive line-up for '08-'09:

KELLI O'HARA'S 'WONDER IN THE WORLD':

A recent USA TODAY 'Music Pick of the Week,' 'Wonder in the World' combines pop music and covers of Billy Joel and James Taylor, with original songs and familiar favorites, to create a 14-track collection celebrating the diversity of the American Songbook. The CD features music arranged and orchestrated by Harry Connick, Jr., and showcases O'Hara's vocal range, as she bridges the gap between contemporary music and beloved standards. Kelli O'Hara is Tony-nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her starring role in South Pacific.

CHRISTINE EBERSOLE & BILLY STRITCH'S 'SUNDAY IN NEW YORK':

The legendary Christine Ebersole and Billy Stritch bring their acclaimed live performance to disc on their latest CD, 'Sunday in New York.' Set for May 13th release, the jazzy new vocal album was produced by Grammy Award winner Russ Titelman (Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon,) and features 13 tracks ranging from Rodgers & Hammerstein's “Surrey With The Fringe On Top" to Stephen Sondheim's “Not While I'm Around." The collection was culled from the pair's recent sold out run at The Metropolitan Room.

DAVID YAZBEK'S 'EVIL MONKEY MAN': Rock/pop artist David Yazbek's acclaimed CD, 'Evil Monkey Man,' has been universally praised for its “remarkably well-crafted images" and “dark, often troubling" songs. When Yazbek presented the material at Lincoln Center recently, The New York Times called the show “A Woozy Thrill Ride on a Volcano's Edge," and raved: “The songwriter David Yazbek is a daredevil juggler catching spiked pins in the traveling carnival of his imagination."

SUTTON FOSTER'S 'WISH' - Coming in '09:

Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, currently starring in Young Frankenstein, and soon to portray Princess Fiona in the forthcoming Shrek The Musical, will release her solo debut CD 'Wish' on Ghostlight in early '09.
