Gerald Veasley was elected as a National Trustee by the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Recording Academy. As a Trustee, Mr. Veasley will serve as a judiciary of the organization, working to increase and maintain the profile and integrity of the Academy, assisting in the development of educational and other existing programs which further the mission of the Academy, and attend National Trustee Meetings twice annually.

Established in 1957, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc., also known as the Recording Academy, is dedicated to improving the quality of life and cultural condition for music and its makers. An organization of 18,000 musicians, producers and other recording professionals, the Recording Academy is internationally known for the GRAMMY Awards, and is responsible for numerous groundbreaking outreach, professional development, cultural enrichment, education and human services programs. For more information, please visit www.grammy.com.

Heads Up recently released Mr. Veasleyís 6th solo album for the label, Velvet, featuring music that evokes the sound and spirit of those formative years when innovators like Sly & the Family Stone, Earth Wind and Fire and George Clintonís Parliament-Funkadelic turned the traditions of R&B and soul on their head and redefined the urban sound. Velvet features guest vocals from Jaguar Wright, Will Brock and John Stephens.

ďFrom the first notes of Velvet, Gerald Veasley lays down a groove thatís hard to resist. His fat tone and funky swing allow him to explore territory that, in lesser hands, would be relegated to the netherworld where atmosphere and licks reign supreme over imagination and melody.Ē Hailed Jazziz Magazine.

Mr. Veasley is also featured on Heads Upís recent critically acclaimed recording of Jaco Pastorius' Big Band Word of Mouth Revisited where the bass virtuoso paid homage to the late great master.
