George Wein Announces Lineup for 2015 Newport Jazz Festival® July 31 – August 2, Including Three Full Days of Performances by Some of the World’s Greatest Established and Emerging Artists

NEWPORT, RI, January 13, 2015 – After producing a successful and exciting 60th anniversary celebration last year, George Wein today announced that the 2015 Newport Jazz Festival® presented by Natixis Global Asset Management will return to the City-by-the-Sea July 31 – August 2 with three full days of music at Fort Adams State Park, plus the popular Friday night concert at the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino and a festive Gala at the historic Breakers on Saturday evening.

The 2015 edition of America’s first annual jazz festival will feature Chris Botti, Cassandra Wilson, Jamie Cullum, Snarky Puppy, Maria Schneider, Arturo Sandoval, Kenny Garrett, Billy Childs, Arturo O’Farrill, Fred Hersch, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Jon Batiste, Kneebody, Hiromi with her trio and piano duets with Michel Camilo, Jon Faddis, James Carter, Christian McBride, Bill Frisell, Mike Stern/Bill Evans Band, Ambrose Akinmusire, Tom Harrell, Pat Martino, Matana Roberts, John Hollenbeck and the much-anticipated return of Dr. John, who had to bow out last year due to illness.

“No one was more excited by last year’s anniversary than I, ” said George Wein, who has produced the Festival since its beginning in 1954. “We set out to present some of the most outstanding established and emerging artists with distinctive musical stories who not only represented the past and the present, but also the future of jazz. Based on the great response from the audience and critics alike, we believe we achieved our goal while fulfilling the mission of the Newport Festivals Foundation™. With the full day of emerging artists on Friday followed by two jam-packed days of amazing talent, we are looking forward to many more memorable moments in jazz history.”

Of the more than 40 bands performing on three stages at Fort Adams, 19 are making their Newport debut. Among the first-timers are Kneebody, Childs, Hersch, Roberts and Harrell as well as Steve Lehman, Gerald Clayton, Bria Skonberg, Wycliffe Gordon, José James, Lucky Peterson, Johnathan Blake and the 11-year old Indonesian piano prodigy Joey Alexander.

The Newport Festivals Foundation will again host THE Jazz Club, a special experience offered on Saturday and Sunday at Fort Adams. The option includes special seating, reserved parking, tented lounge access, upgraded restroom facilities and a Festival poster.

TICKET INFORMATION

Tickets for the 2015 Newport Jazz Festival presented by Natixis Global Asset Management go on sale worldwide Thursday, January 15, at 10:00 am. See details at newportjazzfest.org. Service charges apply to all tickets purchased on-line or by phone.

General Admission tickets for the Friday, July 31, daytime event at Fort Adams are $40.00 for adults and $20.00 for high school students older than 15 and college students with valid ID. Students must use the Student gate and present valid ID to enter the festival. This offer is valid for eligible students while supplies last. Tickets for children aged 3 – 15 are $ 15.00.

Single-day General Admission tickets (no chairs provided) for Saturday and Sunday events at Fort Adams are $55.00 now until January 31, but will be $74.00 per day beginning February 1. These tickets will be $84.00 at the gate, if available. Two-day passes (for Saturday and Sunday) are $ 110.00 now and will be $135.00 on February 1. A limited number of Three-Day passes (for Friday – Sunday events at Fort Adams) are available now for $140.00. Student tickets are $20.00 per day for high school students older than 15 and college students with valid ID. Students must use the Student gate and present valid ID to enter the festival. Offer valid for eligible students while supplies last. Tickets for children aged 3 – 15 are $ 15.00.

Reserved Seating is available for the Saturday and Sunday events at Fort Adams. Tickets for the Center Reserved Section are 125.00 per day. Regular reserved seating is $95.00.

Tickets for THE Jazz Club, a premium experience offered on Saturday and Sunday, are $350 per day.

General admission tickets for all Fort Adams events can also be purchased in person at the Newport Visitors Information Center, located at 23 America’s Cup Avenue. Log on to discovernewport.org for office hours and information. No service charges apply.

Flex tickets, which are good any day at Fort Adams events, are still available for a limited time on-line and at the Newport Visitor’s Center.

Parking passes are also available on-line. Prices range from $ 12.00 - $15.00.

Tickets for the Friday, July 31, 8:00 pm concert at the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino are still available. Prices range from $40.00 - $100.00. All seats reserved. There is no child or student pricing for this event. The Opening Night Cocktail Party, a Newport summer tradition, kicks off the evening at 6:15 pm. Tickets are $65.00. Price includes open bar and hors d’oeuvres. Party attendees must have a ticket to the Newport Jazz Festival concert.
