Formerly known as Gene Shimosato and Harvie Swartz, this dynamic duo adds a stellar saxophonist and drummer to the mix to turn out world-class music. Ess grew up playing classical piano while being exposed to a variety of music including pop, jazz and the local music of the island of Okinawa. He started performing in clubs at the age of 14 and went on to hone his craft at Berklee College of Music. He moved to New York in 1991, and since then has fronted his own bands and played with Rashied Ali, Carlos Santana, Ravi Coltrane, Archie Shepp, Eddie Henderson, Yamashita Yosuke, Masahiko Osaka and more. Harvie S has played with the best in the industry and continues to challenge himself and his peers in new artistic directions. A producer, bandleader, composer and educator, his credits include gigs with Stan Getz, Pat Metheny, Dexter Gordon, Jim Hall, Michael Brecker, Gil Evans, James Moody and Paquito D
