CHICAGO, Ill. – Alfonso Ponticelli is set to lead the next gypsy jazz jam session at the Gaaxie on Thursday, May 21 from 8 to 11 pm. These sessions are open to jazz fans, musicians and dancers of all types and levels, as well as fans of vintage films.

Previous sessions have featured bands such as the Deep Chicago Rhythm Owls, the Uptown Strings and Rhythm Futur. There have been as many as 12 different musicians in attendance, as well as many swing dancers and a few tap dancers, along with people just there to listen.

Musicians and dancers of every kind as well as fans of jazz are invited to come play their instrument, dance or just mingle and listen in a welcoming, creative atmosphere.

Each session will feature:
  • A local Chicago musician or group as “host” along with a variety of other musicians.

  • Dancing and practice time for all forms, including social dancing and solo forms.

  • A featured film themed on early jazz artists in music and dance.

Because The Galaxie is an all ages venue, this is also a great opportunity for parents to bring along the kids for a night of unique music making and dancing. This allows young people to experience music, dancing and classic films from the past about which they likely have very little opportunity to learn and appreciate.

For more information, please visit the Galaxie web site, galaxiechicago.com, e-mail [email protected], or call the Galaxie at 773-267-6010.

The Galaxie’s goal includes creating opportunities for working artists to have a creative, legal and safe environment to work, meet with other artists, gain inspiration and continue to create a strong and vital community in the Chicago art scene.
