Sydney businesses traditionally give Christmas parties and functions to their staff and associates during November and December. Some parties are held at their own premises, restaurants or at function rooms.

The booking of the venue can be reasonably simple, most of the staff can suggest a suitable venue but “the band” in particular can be a trying task, nobody wants to be responsible for suggesting the “wrong band”. For someone that is suddenly placed in that position. where to start ? where do I find a band? what type of band?

Fortunately, in this era of the internet, lots of information about venues and bands can be sourced via Yahoo, Google, ninemsn or your favorite search engine.

Just type “Sydney bands” or “Sydney Jazz bands” and any number of bands show up.

What type of band ? something formal, something Christmassy, jazz, popular covers or just a simple band that can entertain with a variety of styles that will suit (well almost) everybody in a mixed audience. Rock may be too loud, formal maybe not enough variety, Jazz may involve musicians that play music that is only understandable to themselves or the jazz follower.

All in all it can be a daunting task.. your boss is relying on you..

If your boss has not asked specifically for a …way out ..current music ..hip hop band. Try looking for a band that can play for mixed audiences. It may be a conservative approach but it certainly is less risky for such an important assignment.

At this juncture ..you guessed it.. I would like to introduce you to Viva the band. You can find more than a thousand references to “ Viva the band” on the internet they present an exciting mixture of Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, French, Spanish, European, Zydeco, latin , Salsa and stunning show tunes.

The band presents a distinctly “French” party sound with the line up of instruments being: Musette accordion/bass, Spanish Guitar, Jazz Violin (optional), supported by Congas, and Percussion . The band also features two vocalists who perform in glorious harmonies.

Though Viva the band is not strictly a “jazz” band this uniqueness has delighted many audiences with appearances at a host of Jazz festivals including: Gold Coast, Thredbo, Morpeth, Newcastle, Central Coast, Kiama, Illawarra, Manly and at music events at darling Harbour and Sydney Olympic Park.

The band perform at international events with performances in Taiwan in 2004 and 2005 plus future bookings in China in 2006. More information, references etc about the band and contacts can be obtained at www.aband.info or www.musicians.net.au or by typing “viva the band” in Google, Yahoo or ninemsn search. The band is economically priced for private functions.
