Attached is a schedule of events at the Institute of Jazz Studies for the Fall semester. In addition to our longstanding Jazz Research Roundtable forum, we are also presenting a a new solo piano series: Jazz Piano--Four Generations, featuring the work of four great piano stylists: Ray Bryant, Eric Reed, Geri Allen, and Brandon McCune. Prof. Lewis Porter is continuing his series of performances with distinguished guests. All of these events are free and open to the public and take place in the Dana Library on the Rutgers campus in Newark. Finally, you will also find a schedule for our “Jazz From the Archives" radio shows, produced and hosted by the staff of the Institute since 1979 and the longest running show on WBGO-FM. Please pass this along to your colleagues/students.

Sept 7, 2008: The Lost Drummer: Nick Fatool, Part 2: Host Loren Schoenberg salutes this unjustly neglected drummer who drove the big bands of Benny Goodman, Harry James, Claude Thornhill and Artie Shaw, and recorded classic small group sessions with Charlie Christian, Dodo Marmarosa, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughan and many others.
Sept 14, 2008: Tiny in France, Pt.1: Host John Clement continues his survey of guitarist Tiny Grimes, playing recordings he made in France.
Sept 21, 2008: Adventures in Ellingtonia: Another installment in Dan Morgenstern's ongoing series; this time, some never before released late works.
Sept 28, 2008: Winstone Wails!: Host Bill Kirchner plays recordings featuring the very talented veteran British vocalist Norma Winstone.
Oct 5, 2008: Down With Love!: Hosts Annie Kuebler and Vincent Pelote play songs that don't think much of that thing called “love."
Oct 12, 2008 Rising Stars: Host April Grier interviews rising jazz stars Sean Jones, Tyshawn Sorey, and others who reveal their favorite and most influential jazz recordings of the swing and bebop eras.
Oct 19, 2008: Hard Bop Duo: Host Bill Kirchner examines the recordings trumpeter Lee Morgan and tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley made together.
Oct 26, 2008: A Forgotten Concert: In April l947, Sidney Bechet, Jack Teagarden, Muggsy Spanier, Baby Dodds (in rare form) and youngsters Dick Wellstood, Bob Wilber and Johnny Windhurst, a.o., made some caloric sounds at New York's Town Hall. Hosted by Dan Morgenstern.
