Buddy Guy with James Hunter, George Thorogood and The Destroyers, Caracol, Donny McCaslin, David Gogo and JJ Grey & Mofro

Montreal, Tuesday, November 15, 2011—The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is happy to announce that the Jazz All-Year Round series presented by TD welcomes new concerts by Buddy Guy and James Hunter, George Thorogood, Caracol, Donny McCaslin, David Gogo and JJ Grey & Mofro to its program. Tickets for these new concerts go on sale Friday at noon... although Infolettre Spectra subscribers will be able to purchase them tomorrow upon reception of the newsletter, and will also have access to a 15% rebate on certain shows!

Buddy Guy with James Hunter—April 14, 8 p.m., Métropolis—He is one of the fathers of the Chicago “West Side" style. He has given the music world a galaxy of albums and rocked musical collaborations that defy categorization or counting. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005, he's received innumerable awards and honours over the span of his 50-year career. However, when we think of Buddy Guy, we think of that inimitable voice, that supercharged guitar, and a lifetime of untamed, passionate concerts... and mainly, we think of the blues-legendary blues. After his sold-out performance last spring, the icon returns to the Métropolis stage... And add in Brit blue-eyed soulman James Hunter, longtime Van Morrison collaborator, who amazed Festival fans in 2006 and 2010 with a thunderous rocking R&B that sounds like it came barreling right out of the '50s!

George Thorogood and The Destroyers—June 7, 8 p.m., Métropolis—After blowing apart a packed Métropolis during the 2007 edition of the Festival and in the Jazz All-Year Round series in 2010 with his faithful and aptly-named Destroyers, American blues-rock icon George Thorogood-the man behind such classics as Bad to the Bone and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer-returns with his 17th studio album with said Destroyers, released this past summer: 2120 South Michigan Avenue, a rockin' tribute to blues legends (Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy...), that also includes some new Thorogood gems. Mr. Thorogood, your stage awaits you!

Caracol. Opening act: Amelia Curran—March 20, 8 p.m., L'Astral—Blanc mercredi is the ultimate proof-assuming proof was still needed-that Carole Facal (alias Caracol) has definitively and brilliantly liberated herself from the DobaCaracol label, and that the young lady is perhaps blossoming even more than ever in the wake of that partnership. This warm new bilingual album embraces folk, alterna-pop and retro-soul to create a canvas of sensitive songs through which Caracol reminds us that beauty still exists and that convictions, rare and precious, are themselves things of beauty. A luminous, genuine album-and one we simply cannot wait to hear live onstage! Opening the evening for our added listening pleasure, winner of 2010 Juno for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year, Newfoundland singer-songwriter Amelia Curran.

Donny McCaslin—March 23, 8 p.m., L'Astral—At the age of 12, Donny McCaslin was already playing in a group led by his vibraphonist dad. Granted a scholarship to the famed Berklee College of Music in Boston, this tenor saxophonist swiftly developed a sound all his own, incorporating Latin American accents into his jazz melodies, and just as quickly found himself sharing stages with on Luciana Souza, Brian Blade, David Binney and even Pat Metheny. His latest album, Perpetual Motion (2010), his first voyage to the Planet Funk, is a stunning and remarkable musical trip. Blue Wednesdays

JJ Grey & Mofro—January 25, 8 p.m., L'Astral—We discovered JJ Grey's blazing Made-in-Florida “Jookhouse" blues-rock in 2009. Alternately steeped in deep soul and punched up with raw funk, his songs seem to roll right off a porch in the deep south. Mofro is his band, Orange Blossoms is the latest album, and together, their contagious R&B rhythms had us tapping our feet all night long to that sultry, swampy sound. His performances have finally been immortalized on a new CD/DVD released this past autumn, Brighter Days.

David Gogo—April 25, 8 p.m., L'Astral—Canadian guitarist David Gogo is making his second appearance as part of the Blue Wednesdays series. And once you hear him, you'll understand why he's the kind of musician you invite back! A two-time Guitarist of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards, this virtuoso bluesman has charmed the crowd with every appearance, at the Festival (2005), the Montreal Guitar Show (2007) and here in L'Astral (2009). This time, we're ready for twice the pleasure, with Gogo heading in with a new album, Soul-Bender, released this summer. Please note that tickets remain available for these other concerts:
