What Jazz is This is the second CD released by the Etowah Jazz Society Big Band. The first CD, Headwaters, was a “live" recording where What Jazz is This was recorded in a studio and showcases tunes that the band performed during their Christmas concerts over the previous holiday seasons. “We picked our favorite tunes from our 'book' and present them to you," says bandleader Saunders Jones, Jr.

The Etowah Jazz Society Big Band was formed in April of 2002 as a not for profit organization working big band by a group of dedicated Etowah area musicians who love to perform a wide variety of music that can be performed by a big band.

The EJS Big Band plays all around North Georgia for various occasions. As a 501(c)3 we benefit the local music programs and provide college scholarships, tuition, and music funds for the local high schools and other organizations. EJS is comprised of some 17 players from all walks of life who live in the local and surrounding communities. This effort is a compilation of months of studio work (Christmas tunes in JULY!) and individual and sectional recordings compiled to bring you “Seasons Greetings" from this great group. We hope you enjoy our musical offerings in this season of JOY.
