AMERICA'S FAVORITE STRING BAND, ETHEL, RETURNS TO THE WORLD FINANCIAL CENTER FOR ITS 2ND ANNUAL WINTER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION Featuring Six World Premieres and Four Special Guest Pianists

New York City--- ETHEL, the nation's premier rock-infused, postclassical string band, recognizes the rebirth of the winter season with its second annual IN THE HOUSE OF ETHEL: SOLSTICE concert. Presented by arts>World Financial Center, the program is part- musical installation. part- theatrical event designed specifically for the open public space at the Winter Garden. ETHEL, along with four guest pianists Stephen Gosling, Raja Rahman, Rob Schwimmer and Kathleen Supov, will showcase four new self-composed works for piano and strings: Take the 2 Train by Cornelius Dufallo; Solstice People by Ralph Farris; Grace by Dorothy Lawson; and Star Gazer by Mary Rowell. In addition to improvised music and works by notable contemporary composers, ETHEL will also premiere Cereza by Amy Kohn and Citadelle by Raz Mesinai.

Described as “eclectic and ubiquitous" (New York Times), IN THE HOUSE OF ETHEL is a site-specific, multimedia, semi-installation piece where the amplified quartet transforms a large public space into an immersive sound and visual experience. Musically omnivorous, prolific, and passionate, this band of four world-class, Juilliard-trained composer/musicians includes: Cornelius Dufallo (violin), Ralph Farris (viola), Dorothy Lawson (cello), and Mary Rowell (violin). Their recent CD release LIGHT on Cantaloupe Records was selected as # 3 on Amazon.com's “Best of 2006: Top Classical Editor's Picks." In honor of its 10th anniversary, ETHEL is scheduled to embark on an ambitious worldwide “Truck Stop" concert/residency tour throughout 2007-2009. IN THE HOUSE OF ETHEL: SOLSTICE is presented by arts>World Financial Center which is sponsored by American Express, Merrill Lynch, Brookfield Properties and Battery Park City Authority; produced by ETHEL's Foundation for the Arts; and supported, in part, by public funds from The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, The New York State Council on the Arts, Meet the Composer's JP Morgan Chase ReGrant Program for Small Ensembles, The Jerome Foundation, and Steinway Pianos. The donation of four grand pianos is generously provided by Steinway & Sons.
