Solo concerts / New “FOUR STREAMS" Quartet

Esa Pietilas fully improvised solo saxophone CD “KARHEA" has been released on march 26. 2009.

“At the Solo concerts, the virtuosity of his technique and the tonal colours he creates in multitude textures belong into to the elite of saxophone expression. His capabilities to let the saxophone ring from variety of minimalism whispers to full free blowing, results a rich palette of colourful shapes of multiphonics, chordal tones, rhythmic surprises, and even fuga-like approach of inner dialogue."

Esa is known by performing the International jazzestivals with his Trio and other groups more than 10 years already. On 2009 he formed a new Quartet “4 STREAMS" with ECM artist Iro Haarla. Esa is known also from performing numerous projects with international jazz artists in many countries with the names like Ron McClure, Mathias Eick, Heiri Kaenzig, Michael Jefry Stevens, Brian Melvin, Mike Nock, Claudio Fasoli, Odean Pope, Anders Begcrantz, Raoul Bjrkenheim, Hilmar Jensson, Iro Haarla...

New “FOUR STREAMS" Quartet:

Esas new “4 STREAMS" quartet with ECM artists Iro Haarla (pno & keys), Uffe Krokfors (bass) & Markku Ounaskari (drums) creates highly interesting and new collective improvised jazz / avantgarde expression. The spontaneity of the players and the 4 streams of each musicians multidirectional rhythmic lines, textures & melodies unites into a one big symphony and flow of improvisation. A unique sound of harmonic contours with tight interplay.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
