American Grace will be the culmination of a nine-year solo guitar project called the American Trilogy. Your donation will help complete the recording and production of jazz’s first ever solo guitar trilogy. Your donation will cover costs for studio time, CD manufacturing, design work, and distribution.

The philosopher and educator Joseph Campbell once said that “Myths are public dreams, dreams are private myths.” This has been my mantra through many years of study, preparation and contemplation in the music I compose.

Nine years ago I started a solo guitar project called the 'American Trilogy'. The narrative elements of the trilogy operate on those two levels, the public and private. It represents the past present and future of American society and culture, as well as my own self- awareness.

The first album in the trilogy, American Vanity (CNM 2004), is a reaction to 9/11- era America - the before, during and after. Personally, the album is about youthful struggle, bravado, and the high expectations we set ourselves up with.

America Fear (CNM 2010) is a meditation on the post 9/11 decade and the changes it brought to culture and society. It is also a journey through childhood and adolescent fears, leading to adult fears about a confusing world and an unknown future.

American Grace will be a prayer for insight and potential positive change. It will address my own revelations about acceptance, faith and hope.

I do hope you consider participating in this project to complete the world’s only solo guitar trilogy of recordings. It is most fitting that American Grace be a community based project where family, friends and fans can be involved in the process in some way and share in the creative development of the work.

Incentives include copies of the new CD, signed copies of the Trilogy, and most importantly, ways for me to personally share the music either through private guitar or composition lessons and private concerts in your home. An extra incentive for all contributions of any size is that they are tax deductible. I am fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, a non-profit organization that provides nonprofit status to artists.

I plan to record American Grace early summer 2012 and have it ready for release in the fall.

There is one last way you can help, please spread the word about this project via email, Facebook, old school word of mouth, etc… to people who you think may be interested in the music. Thank you in advance for your support and contribution. – Eric

“Boston, Massachusetts is truly blessed in having Eric Hofbauer as a member of its improvised music community. Over the course of successive releases he has proved himself to be one of the great original voices and this solo guitar recital proves it in spades. He seemingly and effortlessly has forged a highly individual instrumental vocabulary and this, allied with a harmonic sense that’s by turns sly and steeped in wit, is one of the hallmarks of his work." —Nic Jones, All About Jazz
