Some unbelievably talented people during that time frame, never before or since has there been so many with so much talent, and to see a lot of them share a stage made it even better. Didn't happen with all of them but enough to just thrill those fortunate enough to be there.

Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, Dizzy and Frank Rosolino , (now that was a kick), Stan Levey with Charlie Parker and with just about everyone, Stan Getz and Bud Shank, a real shootout, Zoot Simms and Conte Candoli, Clark Terry with Bill Evans - and just about everyone as well, Art Pepper wirh Don Joham, Charles Lloyd wirh Don Joham and Charlie Shoemake, Mingus with Lester Young, Sonny Stitt with Mal Waldron, Sonny Clark and Bob Cooper and of course Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All Stars with everyone mentioned, and almost everyone who ever played the West Coast. Turn around those combinations just about anyway you choose and add your favorites, and it probably happened.

This was when I was seeing all of them play, from 1953 to the mid 60's. It was an era unto itself don't you think? There were just so many super creative and talented fellows in the place - so on any given day or night during those years - you were in for a happening time - you might even have the experience of a lifetime. It was forever going on, just so many who were so great, and if not this already, they were most definitely our legends in the making.

But just so lucky to have lived where I lived, which enabled me to see the ones I did, which was almost all of the ones from the Golden Age, it was exciting, and wonderful.
