The Royal Academy of Music is delighted to announce the appointment of jazz legend Dave Holland to its illustrious roster of of teachers.

Dave Holland said: “I'm very happy to have been invited by the Royal Acadamy of Music to be their International Jazz Artist in Residence for the next two years. Spending some extended time with the students of the jazz department will give me the opportunity to share with them some of my own creative ideas and also help guide them in the discovery and development of their own musical identity."

Nick Smart, Head of Jazz (who himself recently received the Jazz Education Award at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2013), said ’We are honoured and excited that Dave Holland will be our new International Jazz Artist in Residence. He is a musician of great musical breadth that represents a lifetime’s experience as a bassist, composer, band leader and educator. At this rapidly evolving time in our music, and in the business that surrounds it, Academy students are required to have the range of skills that Dave so successfully embraces. I am sure we will have an inspirational time working and playing with Dave, culminating in our first concert with him in January next year.’

Dave Holland will work with Academy students for one week in early 2014, including a performance in the Academy’s Sir Jack Lyons Theatre on Wednesday 22nd January.
