Two weeks from tonight, on October 14th, alto saxophonist/composer Darius Jones and his working trio, featuring bassist Adam Lane and drummer Jason Nazary, will perform at SALT Space in New York as part of Destination:Out's new Loft/Lab concert series.

The following week, the band (with Ryan Sawyer sitting in for Nazary) will make its first-ever trip to the West Coast for dates at The Ironworks in Vancouver (10/22) and the Earshot Jazz Festival in Seattle (10/23).

Jones is a rising star on the international scene thanks to the success of two recent AUM Fidelity releases, his 2009 debut, Man'ish Boy (A Raw & Beautful Thing) and Little Women's first full-length recording, Throat, released in April.

Critics have called him “a singular talent" (Brian Morton, Jazz Journal), “a dramatic new voice on alto saxophone" (Richard Kamins, Hartford Courant) and “a skilled composer, a hugely soulful saxophonist, and an assured leader" (François Couture, AllMusic.com).

The Village Voice's Jim Macnie adds, “Pure power rings through the metal of his alto sax, and the frenetics that invariably erupt are often grounded in something akin to deep spirituality. That's why some cite him as a blend of Albert Ayler and Arthur Blythe. There's no way to take your ear from him once he's got you in his crosshairs."
