Darcy James Argue's Secret Society
On Wednesday, September 22nd, Darcy James Argue's Secret Society will follow-up its highly regarded appearance at CareFusion Jazz Festival Newport with a two-set performance at Iridium Jazz Club in New York.

This event, the 18-piece ensemble's second appearance at the venue and first gig in New York since its debut at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola (pictured above) in June during CareFusion Jazz Festival New York, is part of a month-long big band series curated by trumpeter/composer David Weiss.

Sets begin at 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. and tickets are $20 per set. Students will receive a 50% discount on the second set. Advance tickets are available by phone at (212) 582-2121.

2010 has been an exciting year for Argue and the band, which has maintained an increasingly active performance schedule in New York and beyond. Together they earned a JUNO Award nomination for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year, catapulted Argue to two wins at the Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Awards for Up & Coming Artist of the Year and Large Ensemble of the Year, and topped the Big Band Rising Star, Composer Rising Star and Arranger Rising Star categories in DownBeat's 58th Annual Critics Poll.

Journalists writing about the group's summer performances have credited it with “unquestionably making the big band cool again" (Time Out New York), “some of the most exciting music being written for jazz orchestra" (Jon Garelick, Boston Phoenix), and “fresh ideas and elegant combinations of disparate influences (from distorted electric guitar to magisterial wind-instrument arrangements to minimalist rhythms), all arriving in tight execution" (Larry Blumenfeld, Village Voice).
