From Rio de Janeiro, 7-string guitarist Daniel Marques recently won the greatest award in his country, the 'Brazilian Grammy' known as the Prêmio da Música Brasileira (2010).

“The Brazilian Award was for my last project called Frevo Diabo Orchestra. I created that band, produced the awarded CD and directed the band, also composing and making arrangements. My new project is like a microcosm of the orchestra."

Daniel is now releasing his debut solo album, Carnaval de Perneta (2011), independently on his own Pólvora label—"pólvora" meaning “gunpowder." This CD offers a different view of Brazilian Carnival and Folk music. Featuring all original material, the project showcases Daniel's compositions and arrangements, production and leadership. With a jazzy approach, including a variety of percussions, bass, a touch of trombone and occasional vocalizing, Marques creates a unique, exploding sound full of sparks.

The young guitarist has been gathering enthusiastic reviews performing internationally at guitar, jazz, world music and folk festivals. He continues to experiment with different formats ranging from Solo to Trio and beyond.

Daniel Marques Trio:

Now in Summer 2011, the guitarist returns to the road. To strengthen his music, Daniel invited two brilliant Brazilian musicians: from Rio de Janeiro, percussionist Sergio Krakowski, who is considered today the greatest pandeiro (Brazilian tambourine) player in his country; and from New York, sax/flautist Rodrigo Ursaia, a member of renowned bossa-nova singer Rosa Passos' band.

Together they are the Daniel Marques Trio, presenting Daniel's compositions and arrangements based on the repertoire of his new solo album. This project represents a ripening of Daniel´s sound, also documented in an upcoming live recording from the legendary Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, DK (2012 release).
