Executive preps for Playboy Jazz Cruise
The inaugural Playboy Jazz Cruise is coming this January. The seven-day cruise promises to be seven days of jazz bliss.
Dane Butcher, Director of Cruise Operations and Programming for Jazz Cruises LLC, the producers of the Playboy Jazz Cruise, is well at work finalizing cruise and show details that will delight jazz enthusiasts who are on board.
Although this is the first year for the Playboy Jazz Cruise, it coincides with the Playboy Jazz festival's 30th anniversary and comes with all the star power the festival has gained over the years.
The cruise will be hosted by two-time Grammy-winner Marcus Miller with headliner Herbie Hancock. Also shipping out are jazz stars Pancho Sanchez, Keb Mo, James Carter, Roy Hargrove and Diane Reeves, to name a few.
Darlene [Chan] with Festival Productions wanted to keep the theme of Playboy Jazz," Butcher said of recruiting the talent for the cruise. We wanted to have the New Orleans Brass Band and we wanted Herbie and then just combining a bit of the blues and a little Latin fusion. We kind of sit through a long list and through a process of elimination, we start to put bids out. As soon as you say Herbie Hancock will be there, no one hesitates."
