CNY Jazz Arts Foundation Welcomes Vocalist Nicole Henry To Headline Their Black History Month Cabaret Henry Returns From Performance at Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival

February 3, 2006 - On Sunday, February 12, at 5:00 PM, jazz songstress Nicole Henry will perform the for Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation, Inc. at Syracuse's Justin Grill for a dinner show celebrating Black History Month. Returning to the states from the recent performance in Montego Bay for the Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, Nicole Henry will perform songs from her award winning and best-selling CDs, “Teach Me Tonight" and “The Nearness of You."

Henry and her second album “Teach Me Tonight" were recently honored by the Japanese division of mega-retailer HMV with their award for “Best Vocal Jazz Album 2005". Produced by Todd Barkan and featuring the Eddie Higgins Trio, the Venus Records release reached number one on the Japanese jazz charts, remaining in the top ten for several weeks. This is Henry's second HMV Award, the first being “Best New Jazz Artist of 2004" after the success of her debut CD, The Nearness of You (Banister Records).

Described by the Japan Times as “one of the most impressive live performers to polish up The Great American Songbook," Nicole Henry's voice and presence continues to gain fans around the world. Cadence Magazine titled her “a superb vocal thespian." Her recent touring schedule has included Mexico, London, Korea, Japan and the U.S. She's performed at the Rainbow Room with the Cab Calloway Orchestra and the Lincoln Center with the Juilliard Jazz Octet and has shared the stage with such greats as Nicholas Peyton, Eric Alexander, Kenny Werner, Duffy Jackson, Isaac Hayes, Roberta Flack, Tower of Power, Tom Scott, Al Green, Bo Diddley and Johnny O'Neal.

Henry is currently working on her third CD project, with award- winning and GRAMMY-nominated record producer Rachel Faro, in which she will continue her unique interpretations of classic jazz standards as well as introduce original material.
