Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Christopher Davis-Shannon has released a video and free download for his interpretation of the Fats Waller classic “LuLu’s Back in Town”.

The song, popularized in 1935, continues the Philadelphia native’s year-long mission to bring some lighthearted awareness to the concise pop sensibility of traditional jazz songs. His performances, typically shot and edited from the comfort of his own home, have paid homage to the likes of Ruth Etting, Billy Mayhew, and more. Equally comfortable with a band as he is on his own, Davis-Shannon is excited to feature his first collaborative cover of 2016. The accompanying musicians (Eric Aldrich on piano, Rich Flamini on drums, and Alex Delcourt on bass) bring a dynamic new foundation to Davis-Shannon’s breathy vocal and lively guitar.

Videographer Joe Santiago directed the nostalgia-steeped visuals for “LuLu’s Back in Town”, portraying the singer and his sharply-dressed trio of bandmates in a tight black-and-white studio setting.

The full session, recorded at The Audio Lab by Tony Mascara, is available for free download via Davis-Shannon’s website. It also includes the quartet’s performance of Fats Waller’s Grammy Hall of Fame song, “Honeysuckle Rose”.

Davis-Shannon will release a new cover every week throughout 2016. His relentless performance schedule, spanning multiple states, countries, and continents, can be followed via the “Live” section of his website.
