Scottish jazz singer, Christina Britton, is gearing up for the release of her debut album “Oh, Charlie” in the spring of 2013. The album gets it name, from you guessed it, Charlie Chaplin. With Christina’s love for the old movies, she couldn’t resist adding a touch of the silver-screen to her newest album.
Christina has been working diligently over the last few years with band members scattered in various countries, believe it or not. The album composers are Ray deMeriden and Bobby Watson from the USA, Nicola Offindani from Italy and Hallstein Mackie from Norway as well as Casia, a lyricist from Canada.
This is a free-flowing album adding a touch of humor, tears and passion. The great thing about this album is its variety and that comes from having an inconsistent troop of composers and session players – a very unique combination indeed. There are twelve session players on this album and well, they are scattered all over the place too: Rod Chubb on guitar, Raul Rodriquez Jr. on production and arrangement, Pat Felitti on piano, and Lonnie Wilson on upright bass from the USA; Avi Rosenfeld on guitar from Israel; Miguel Lira on drums from Mexico; Peter Kossits on saxophone and flute from Canada; Simon Lau on Bass from Malaysia; Peter Zero on guitar and Nigel Robinson on Bass from Scotland; Tommaso Monopoli on drums and Cristian Basile mixing from Italy. And, they all met through an internet collaboration site called Kompoz. This goes to show you what can be done when you’re inspired.
This album will have you swooning to the romance of an era gone by with romantic songs like “Oh, Charlie”, and “Carlotta” and the sexy, laughable tune of “You’re So Damn Country” that even Madeline Kahn herself would giggle over. There’ll be no disappointment here. And, there’s a bit of everything on this album …. Tears, passion, hope and craziness. “Monday Morning No. 9 Express” has taken on a life of its own to become a No. 1 song on indie websites. “Boo Hoo Hoo Poor Me”, a soulful barroom, old-style song full of adversity and desire has Christina pulling out tricks as if you were back in time.
This album was two years in the making as Christina struggled with personal issues, but never giving up on her desire to share her music. Life doesn’t always go your way as we all know… but reality be damned, she’s here and hotter than ever. It doesn’t matter what era a star is born, Christina is a star in every sense of the word.
