The Chihiro Yamanaka Trio will perform at Iridium Jazz Club in New York City on July 10, 2012, in a CD release concert for Reminiscence (Universal/Decca/EmArcy). This is the 2nd major-label CD release in the United States by the dazzling jazz pianist, following her 2011 U.S. debut, Forever Begins (Universal/Decca/EmArcy).

Iridium Jazz Club is at 1650 Broadway at 51st St., New York, NY. Sets are at 8 PM and 10 PM. There is a $25 cover charge per set, along with a $15 food/drink minimum. Tickets can be purchased in advance on the Iridium website or by calling the Iridium at 212-582- 2121.

Appearing with Chihiro will be bassist Yoshi Waki and drummer John Davis. Waki and Davis appear on Reminiscence, as do bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Bernard “Pretty" Purdie. The CD features a combination of Chihiro's distinctive composing and her strikingly original arrangements of classic material by composers ranging from John Coltrane and Horace Silver to Burt Bacharach and Carole King.

Reminiscence has already been released in Japan on Universal/Verve, and it quickly ascended to the #1 spot on the Japanese jazz charts, continuing her streak of consecutive chart-topping jazz CDs on Universal/Verve in Japan over the past several years. Reminiscence has the additional honor of winning the “Nissan Presents Jazz Japan Award 2011" for “Album Of The Year."

The July 10 concert marks the first U.S. appearance by the Chihiro Yamanaka Trio since its heralded performance on May 10 at the Mary Lou Williams Women In Jazz Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

In recent months Chihiro has been on tour in Japan, Italy and France, performing at such prestigious venues as Billboard Live in Tokyo, the Blue Note in Milan, and Sunset-Sunside in Paris. Besides her tours with her own trio, Chihiro appeared earlier this year as part of an all-star band assembled as a touring unit for the Fujitsu Concord Jazz Festival, performing in large concert halls throughout Japan.
