Revered jazz keyboardist Chick Corea and vibraphone great Gary Burton bring “Return of the Crystal Silence Duets" to UCLA Live's Royce Hall Saturday March 5 in a special performance celebrating the duo's longstanding collaboration and acclaimed 1973album, Crystal Silence.

NPR called the album “one of the seminal recordings of that decade" and kicked off a long-running partnership between thetwo artists, including ongoing live tours and several more albums including Duets, Zürich (live album), Native Sense and 2008's The New Crystal Silence which won the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album that year.

Named the 2010 DownBeat artist of the year, Chick Corea is a 16-time Grammy winner and undisputed keyboard virtuoso. From straight-ahead to avant-garde, bebop to fusion, children's songs to chamber music, along with some far-reaching forays into symphonic works, Corea has touched an astonishing number of musical bases in his illustrious career that spans four decades.

Chick continues to make a significant impact on the jazz scene, as evidenced by 2007's Grammy-winning The Enchantment (duets with banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck), 2008's The New Crystal Silence, 2009's Returns (documenting Return to Forever's 2008 reunion tour) and 2009's Grammy-winning Five Peace Band Live (with John McLaughlin, Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett and Vinnie Colaiuta).

Over the course of 40 years, Gary Burton has attracted audiences from both sides of the jazz-rock spectrum. A six-time Grammy winner and an early progenitor of the jazz fusion phenomenon, he borrows rhythms and sonorities from rock, while maintaining jazz's emphasis on improvisation and harmonic complexity.

Gary's latest collaborative project is Quartet Live, reprising the Gary Burton Quartet of the 1970's with Pat Metheny, Steve Swallow and Antonio Sanchez. Having already toured in Japan, USA, and Europe, this group made their third tour with performances in the USA and Canada in June, 2009.

Chick Corea and Gary Burton's appearance at UCLA Live is supported by the Henry Mancini Tribute Fund.

Single tickets are on sale now. UCLA Live at Royce Hall, 340 Royce Dr., Westwood. Saturday, March 5 at 8 p.m. $43-83 ($15 UCLA students). (310) 825.2101
