The Charmaine Clamor Story...
Charmaine Clamor is the first Filipina jazz singer to be played on mainstream American radio. She will be making her New York City debut on June 25th, at Iridium Jazz Club.
Charmaine grew up in a tiny provincial town in the Philippines and started singing on the back of buses traveling to Manila when she was 3 (whether the passengers liked it or not!). She moved to the States when she was 16 and became an American citizen when she was 21. She was discovered" seven years ago by a Hollywood-based jazz harmony ensemble (think Manhattan Transfer) in a Filipino karaoke bar. Last year she released her first solo CD, Searching for the Soul," on FreeHam Records. In addition to headlining the Manila International Jazz Festival and being the first Filipina to play the famous CATALINA JAZZ CLUB in Los Angeles, she's also earned a Masters degree and is preparing to pursue a PhD in physical therapy.
At her concerts, in addition to singing jazz standards, she always includes at least one song in her native language, Tagalog. Charmaine brings a world" sensibility to her music, which, along with her dark voice, distinguishes her from all the other talented singers out there. In New York, she'll do at least two Filipino numbers per set.
