Marc Iacona and John Nugent, producers of the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival
, provided an update today on the status of planning for a rescheduled festival, which is proceeding as previously announced.
In a message of hope, Nugent and Iacona said, “Rather than giving up during this time of uncertainty, we are continuing to take a hopeful course and are forging ahead to the best of our ability to reschedule our 19th Edition festival for October 2 to 10, 2020.”
The 2020 festival was originally scheduled for June 19-27, but was canceled on those dates due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Our plans are fully predicated on being able to gather safely according to recommendations of our health and government officials. If we are able to proceed with our plans, we will follow all guidelines as specified by our health and government officials. We will also take additional precautions to provide our patrons with masks and hand sanitizer.” The producers have been communicating with venues and all artists to reschedule the festival. Many artists expected to perform in June are ecstatic about the opportunity to be part of the rescheduled festival in October."
The revised program will feature changes.
“To make an analogy, over several months, our team had completed a beautiful several thousand-piece puzzle for June 19-27. Then a massive unexpected windstorm came along, blowing all the pieces into the air. We have, however, begun the process of putting this huge puzzle back together and reshaping it to be as brilliant as we had originally intended.”
A full updated lineup is expected to be announced in several weeks.
New dates have been announced for two headliner shows: Puss N Boots featuring Sasha Dobson
, Norah Jones
& Catherine Popper
will now be presented on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 8 p.m. at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Spyro Gyra
will perform Sunday, October 4, 2020 at 8 p.m. at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Tickets already purchased will automatically be valid for the rescheduled shows.
Four headliner shows are canceled as they could not be rescheduled due to artist and/or venue unavailability: Nile Rodgers and CHIC, Wynonna and the Big Noise, Trombone Shorty, and Garth Fagan Dance and Monty Alexander. Ticket holders are being offered refunds or festival credit.
