This past Sunday, May 1st at Merkin Concert Hall the internationally-renowned Continuum, in being one of New York's oldest contemporary music-presenting organizations—in celebration of its 45th New York season, premiered major new works written for Continuum by 5 composers. Among those granted this honor was the very gifted, eclectic Carman Moore. The talent and vision of Mr. Moore is difficult to put into words. So what a treat it is for the communities of Huntington and surrounding LI towns this Mother's Day for, as a part of Premik Russell Tubb's music series, Carman Moore and THE SKYMUSIC ENSEMBLE will be performing at the Cinema Arts Centre. Carman lent his support the very first full night of music at CAC back on January 29th of 2010 and is now returning with his full 7-piece aggregation. To experience this music within such a relaxed, intimate setting as the Sky Room Café (yes, how apropos!) will be a treasured memory. To be swept up by the music, i.e. the textures of sound, instrumental harmonies and to feel its palpable energy will be an adventure that will play in your mind again and again for years to come, making this an unforgettable May 8th. A ttuly fitting Mother's Day special.

The electro-acoustic SKYMUSIC ENSEMBLE is opening its active season with this Long Island performance. In honoring the Cinema Arts Centre as a music venue Carman Moore will include a world-premiere work entitled HIGH HEAVENS featuring its two virtuoso violinists Charles Burnham and Daisy Jopling. This work opens with violins, piccolo, and keyboards “twittering" (in the old-school use of the term) and develops with solos over a series of rich chorale-like chords. Also on the program are Moore works for solo instruments—-BIRDS OF UMBRIA for flutist and Adelphi University professor Linda Wetherill and BLUE HEART which is for Ms. Jopling. Local talented students, Jonathan Bodian, age 13/guitar, Nikolette Kellsi DeBenedictis, age 16/violin and Mikah Feldman-Stein age 17/alto saxophone will also have the grand opportunity to perform with THE SKYMUSIC ENSEMBLE in a piece composed and conducted by Carman Moore.

Each of the musicians within THE SKYMUSIC ENSEMBLE has a bio of their own that will astound. Their experience and diversity is something of wonder. When coupled with the talent of Carman Moore, all are harnessed within a freedom and granted ample room for expression enabling the personalities of each an allowance to shine through. It is a whirlwind of mystifying instrumental mix that comes together in a way to redefine music. Condensed bios may be found here in the Village Tattler

THE SKYMUSIC ENSEMBLE can best be described as 'new music." It is a world-class electro-acoustic chamber group featuring a distinctly original blend of styles from classical to jazz and ethnic music. It was founded in 1980 by its conductor and principal composer Carman Moore. THE SKYMUSIC ENSEMBLE has been featured in concerts world-wide including at La Scala in Milan, Geneva's Made-in-America Festival 1990, Washington D.C.'s Dumbarton Series, and at major venues from London to Kyoto and Ottawa, Canada. Based in New York City the group has performed for audiences ranging from the Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors Festival, the Guggenheim Museum, the United Nations, and the World Financial Center Series to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

Long Island music lovers have been learning of Huntington's cultural gem—the Cinema Arts Centre—as it has widened its reach to bring phenomenal professional classic and innovative music to the intimate setting of the Sky Room Café. To be sure, CAC is embracing the music community with the same highly developed, eclectic, sophisticated approach as it has film. With prices that are affordable for both old and young, this grants a younger generation an opportunity of early exposure to diverse genres of music within a warm, friendly environment. Singles, friends and families together can enjoy music's unifying experience.

As always ...expect the unexpected! A wine and cheese reception will follow the music.
