Bud Shank "Against the Tide" film on Jazzed Media Receives EMPixx Gold Award

The EMPixx Awards, a competition honoring excellence in the production of moving pixels, had honored Jazzed Media with a 2009 EmPixxAwards- Gold for the documentary film Bud Shank Against the Tide.

The documentary film was produced and directed by multi-Grammy nominated and award winning filmmaker Graham Carter, founder of Jazzed Media. Jazzed Media produces jazz CDs and documentary jazz films. This is the fourth national award for the Bud Shank Against the Tide" documentary film. Previously the film was awarded a 2008 Aurora Award-Gold, a 2008 Telly Awards-Bronze, and a 2008 Videographer Award of Distinction.

Bud Shank Against the Tide" salutes legendary jazz alto saxophonist Bud Shank whose over 60 year career in jazz included work with Charlie Barnet, Stan Kenton, Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars, Laurindo Almeida, and The LA4. The name Bud Shank is synonymous with West Coast jazz. He is credited as being the one of the first musicians to introduce the flute to jazz. Shank was one of the key figures to introduce Central and South American sounds to the jazz idiom, along with Laurindo Almeida in the early 1950s, which led to the formation of Bossa Nova a few years later.

The EMPixx competition was created by David E. Carter, a multiple Emmy and Clio winner with a long history of innovation for the creative world. Carter founded American Corporate Identity, edited the Creativity Annual, and founded the Telly Awards. The EMpixx Awards is sponsored by the American Pixel Academy, an organization founded by professionals and educators in the pixel media.

Jazzed Media, a jazz record label and film production company, was founded in the Denver, Colorado metropolitan area in 2002. Jazzed Media's owner Graham Carter is a multi-Grammy nominated record producer (The Bill Holman Band Live" and The Bill Holman Band Hommage") and award winning jazz filmmaker (Phil Woods A Life in E Flat" & Bud Shank Against the Tide"). Currently Jazzed Media owner Graham Carter is producing & directing a documentary film on big band jazz legend Stan Kenton.
